Governor Richardson Appoints Jovita Gonzales to Grant County Commission

SANTA FE - Governor Bill Richardson today announced the appointment of Ms. Jovita Gonzales of Bayard to the Grant County Commission, District 2.

“Ms. Gonzales is a lifelong resident of Grant County, she knows the needs of the county and its residents,” said Governor Richardson. “Jovita Gonzales comes highly recommended and I am confident that she will represent her constituents well.”

Jovita Gonzales is currently the Mayor Pro-Tem of Bayard, NM. Previously, she served as Mayor of Bayard from 2000 to 2004 and as Municipal Clerk for the village of Santa Clara for fifteen years.

Ms. Gonzales serves on a number of committees, including the New Mexico Municipal League, Treasurer of the Grant County Democratic Party, and the Gila Regional Medical Board of Directors.

Ms. Jovita Gonzales replaces Rodolpho Martinez, who was recently appointed to the New Mexico House of Representatives. Her appointment is effective immediately.
